In 2022, illustrator Dingzhe Gan was commissioned by Qingteng University to create a thematic silk scarf centered on the concept of “resilience.” The project translates the institution’s philosophy into a symbolic visual composition that celebrates endurance, vitality, and the quiet strength found in nature.
Through this collaboration, the silk scarf becomes both a wearable object and a narrative surface, where illustration and textile design converge to express the spirit of growth and perseverance.
ABOUT THIS WORK
The design draws inspiration from twelve resilient plant species found in nature, each chosen for its symbolic association with vitality and endurance. These botanical elements intertwine and overlap within a carefully constructed symmetrical composition, forming a dense yet harmonious visual structure.
Working with his signature engraving-inspired line technique, Dingzhe Gan renders each plant with meticulous detail, allowing the natural forms to merge into a rhythmic ornamental pattern. The result is an image that balances precision with organic movement, evoking both the strength and elegance of living systems.
Through this layered botanical language, the work reflects on the beauty of resilience in nature—where individual forms coexist, support one another, and collectively create a visual metaphor for perseverance and life’s enduring force.
ABOUT ARTIST
Dingzhe Gan
Dingzhe Gan is an illustrator based in China whose practice is rooted in engraving- and etching-inspired illustration. Through disciplined control of fine lines and intricate structures, he constructs highly detailed images that unfold with a strong narrative character.
Drawing from a wide range of historical and cultural references, Dingzhe Gan develops compositions that balance visual density with precision. His work is distinguished by its vintage sensibility, refined craftsmanship, and meticulous technique, creating illustrations that feel timeless, immersive, and carefully constructed.
His clients include Rémy Martin, Chow Tai Fook, Sam’s Club, Panasonic, Budweiser China, Pechoin, Codage Paris, and HARIO. His work has received multiple international recognitions, including the A’ Design Award (Silver), Pentawards (Silver), MUSE Design Awards (Platinum), and the iF Design Award.
