Starbucks × Yuzhen Ke

2023 | China | Installation & Public Art

Concept • Art Creation • Spatial Installation • Commission

In collaboration with Starbucks China and its Asia-Pacific headquarters, Yuzhen Ke was commissioned to create a site-specific installation artwork for the brand’s space in Kunshan. The project reinterprets Starbucks’ visual identity through the artist’s signature blue-and-white porcelain-inspired graffiti language, translating a global brand symbol into a localized cultural expression.

Titled “Into Blue” (Ru Qing), the project reflects a dialogue between contemporary urban culture and traditional Chinese aesthetics, embedding the brand within a reimagined visual and material context.

Entitled “Starfield”, the circular installation (160 × 160 cm) transforms the Starbucks logo into a dynamic visual system through Yuzhen Ke’s distinctive artistic language. Using mixed materials, the work reconstructs the logo through layered composition, where flowing lines, ornamental fragments, and porcelain-inspired motifs expand outward across the surface.

Balancing precision with spontaneity, the work bridges material experimentation and graphic expression. Through this transformation, the installation becomes both a cultural translation and a spatial experience, where brand identity dissolves into a broader narrative of pattern, rhythm, and contemporary visual culture.

Yuzhen Ke

Born in Zhanjiang, Guangdong in 2000, Yuzhen Ke initiated his artistic practice at 15 following his immersion in graffiti subculture. As a millennial creator, his oeuvre transcends the limitations of elemental graffiti composition, undertaking a transcultural aesthetic intervention that fuses the countercultural vitality of contemporary street art with the epistemological depth of Eastern cultural heritage.

Yuzhen Ke emerges as China’s inaugural public graffiti artist to crystallize a distinct “blue-and-white porcelain style,” realizing a dialectical synthesis between classical artisanal craftsmanship and the raw, unmediated expressivity of street culture.

His clients and collaborators include Nike, Starbucks, Tencent, FILA, Voss, and LOLA. He has been invited to graffiti festivals in Vienna, Heidelberg, Bayonne, Glasgow, and Central Hong Kong, and holds Russia’s largest individual graffiti mural record (Vladivostok).
